The Master's Monthly Message:
Brothers, we had a FANTASTIC Mason of the Year Dinner on July 13th. Our steak and chicken was prepared and grilled by none other than our "Master" Chef, Worshipful Brother Dave Phillips. I'd also like to thank Worshipful Brother Erv Barrett for getting us the meat for the BBQ, courtesy of Oleson's Food Market and Worshipful Brother John Taylor who sent invitations in a due and timely manner. Worshipful Brother Walt Hufford was our Mason of the Year, and he was given award, presented by his son, Worshipful Brother Steve Hufford. There were many Brothers and family members present, including Brothers from other area Lodges and one Worshipful Master visiting from Kentucky (yes, I did flag him down a few hours before, when I saw his Masonic licence plate from KY).
Our Regular Communication went wonderfully well. We conducted our usual business, and had a few Brothers who have known our Mason of the Year for many years tell some good stories about him.
Our Adopt-A-Highway pickup that was scheduled for July 12th was rescheduled due to so few in attendance. It is hoped that we have eight or more Brothers turn out to help our community. We do have four Brothers who volunteered to help on Thursday, July 15th at 6:30, but we could always use a few more helping hands. It also gives us time for good fellowship.
Also, we have our Charlevoix Lodge 2010 College Fund Benefit Golf Outing coming up on Sunday, July 18th. There is still time to get another team together. If you know anyone who is interested to getting a team together, please contact Sam Wilcenski at 231-547-6755. We could always have another team. The more, the better.
Finally, we did have two petitions read at our July Regular Communication, so we will be conferring the three degrees over the next few months. There will be a report from our investigative committees next mont. Once we vote on the committee reports, we will be scheduling our degree work, including practice times. Please keep this in mind when planning you schedules over the next few months. It is great to see our Lodge continue to grow in membership. I would also like to send our congratulations to Boyne City Lodge. They currently have eight petitions in the investigative process. It show us that Masonry continues to grow in our communities.
Fraternally,
John Rathjens, W.M.
